Nudgeville - My New Project

Yes you may have heard on the grapevine that I’ve been working on something new. This something is a result of me being banned from Digg for using scripts that I thought were legit. No warning, no message, just banned. I was only on for 3 months so no big loss but I will miss the friends I made there. Fortunately I still speak to many on Gtalk. :)

So with this extra couple of minutes a day I had free, I decided to create my own mini-Digg site : Nudgeville. It works very similar to Digg; submit stories, promote it and make friends. The difference between the two, will be, Nudgeville will have a friendly environment. Through moderation and communication it’s my goal to make this a site where people can share stories and comment without getting their heads bitten off.

Please check it out if you haven’t.

I’ll be running a competition in the next couple of days to get the word out so keep an eye on the Nudgeville Blog.

I am an open-minded guy so if you have any feedback in how I can improve the site, please let me know.

See you in Nudgeville! :)

    Well done Arn.

Only comments I would make about Nudgeville is the colours of your and links, they’re too similar and combined with the text give the colour scheme an overall ‘flat’ feel to me.

Try some of the schemes on Colour Lovers - http://www.colourlovers.com/palettes/top

Oh and you might want to set up a different email account for the admin instead of sending it from your personal one, otherwise you might be inundated when it takes off!

Mat thanks for the feedback! Always appreciated :)

    Hey Arn

Just wondering how long it normally takes for Nudges to go live? Do you approve them on a one by one basis, is it automated, or is it time based, ie. x minutes / hours after submission?

Just doing an intro write up on it now for my blog and need a little more information to go with the article.

    Cheers
    Mat

Mattie hold off writing that blog article as I am finalising a competition that involves exactly it and I want to make sure you get a chance to participate.

As we’re still testing, it takes a certain number of nudges to get to front page. This “number” will increase proportionally to the user base - it is automatic promotion not by me.

Being experienced with social media, you’ll be aware that promotion algorithm’s are always a point of contention so we’re trying to create one that’s fair; one that works towards the benefit of the whole community not just an elite few.

Thanks for keeping an eye on us and inputting :)

Ahh well I’ll start writing it, but just wont publish it yet. Good to see you addressing some of the short comings of other social bookmarking sites from the start rather than just copying it.

Thanks for making this social networking site. This is the first good news for me after getting banned on digg.
Thanks Arnold and great work.. No need to miss us we are always there for u..

Wow, Arnold, I like your attitude! “Well, I’m banned from the most popular social media site on the internet, so maybe I should create my own” :D

I like the site, quite neat, and it’s very attracting that only a few people use it yet, so it’s easier to hit the frontpage…
Don’t get me wrong, the traffic is fascinating, I just compared to Digg…

@Amit & @Jani thank you for your kind words. I hope to see you around Nudgeville.

    It’s growing faster than I expected :)

If you have a blog I also have a competition running where you can earn some decent cash by doing one blog post.

    Check it out at http://blog.nudgeville.com

Thanks Arnold, but I don’t like to write offtopic posts, but I may cover Nudgeville on a later post about the no-so-well-known social media sites.

But I’m curious, how much time did it take to set up the site? Do you designed it? OR how?
It seems like a lot of work…
