Submit your URL to Google to appear in Google searches
It’s a sad fact that many beginner bloggers / website owners think that once they’ve created their beautiful website, their piesta resistance, that hordes of visitors will bombard their site. Unless you’re an already famous entity on the web scene this will, for the majority, not be the case.
One step in getting your site more traffic is to ensure that it’s indexed (recorded) on the world’s most used search engine - Google. Being number one for your chosen keywords in a Google search is another story which I will cover later, but at least this will notify Google that your site is ready to be crawled and listed.
Google Crawl Explained
What is “crawled”? Google sends out a virtual bot that moves through all sites that are indexed in its database. This crawler tracks updates and captures information on new pages. The frequency of this crawl is dependent on the prominence / popularity of your site i.e. the more popular you website the more frequent the crawlers visits. For example, my gadget store gets crawled at least once a day and is a top 50k ranked Alexa website. This means that my new pages will reflect in Google searches within 24-48 hours.
How to submit your URL to Google
Despite what many SEO snake-oil merchants might say, submitting your URL / website to Google is very easy. Simply add your URL (full, not individual pages) and a sentence or to describing your site (include relevant keywords) to http://www.google.com/addurl/.

While it may take a couple of days till you see yourself listed, it will happen. As for the positioning on Google searches, don’t be dismayed if you don’t appear at the top - this will take time and work however not altogether impossible. I’ll be discussing this soon.
Do searches for “mr.gadget” or “gadget australia” and you’ll see my site (www.mrgadget.com.au) linked at number #1. In weeks to come we’ll I’ll give you some tips on achieving similar results for your website

Good post AA, although with my most recent site, guitarpug.com, I didn’t do a search engine submission, but the Google crawler still crept its way into my domain.
It’s probably still a good idea to do so, but I think once you start creating some quality content and submitting it to various social sites, the Google Bot of death will come seeking you out.
Thanks for the comment Julian. You used other tools such as Stumble Upon, Digg and links on other people’s popular blogs to get your site noticed by Google.
This post was intended for beginner bloggers who have not had experience with the pre-mentioned.
That’s probably true, o wise one! Thanks for the tip!
